Terns at Normandy Lagoon
Never a dull moment at Normandy Lagoon! Many pairs of Common Terns coming and going bringing food to their nests, and this year joined by Roseate Tern. Redshank and Avocet also had young close to the footpath allowing great views. The Roseate Terns were out of sight for the most part, but I did see… Continue reading

Probable Common Scoter Nocturnal flight call, and a very close Moorhen
Sadly a little too distant/faint for me to be certain, the resulting sonogram a little blurry, but a sequence of calls from last night certainly were in the right frequency range, and sounded good for Common Scoter. Amplified and uploaded above. Entering the peak period for their migration over UK, so hopefully, I’ll get a… Continue reading

Running a microphone overnight in my garden has been an interesting experience over the last couple of weeks. From rarity finder, to rarity overlooker, and back!
My recent trip to Thailand was one of a number to take full advantage of ebird/citizen science data in compiling routes, places to visit, and target species. I have used the ebird target lists quite comprehensively to draw up a number of new species to look for, and often in the back of my… Continue reading

Wildlife watching in Central Thailand
Bar-backed Partridge This trip was a couple of years in the making, and by the time it came around, I had a good idea of exactly where I wanted to go, and what to hopefully see. My plan was to fly into Bangkok, and head straight for Phetchaburi region. Spending a day or so looking… Continue reading

An hour of vis-mig at Romsey followed by 30 mins or so in the private horse paddocks near the house this morning.
An hour of vis-mig at Romsey followed by 30 mins or so in the private horse paddocks near the house this morning. Vis-mig was pretty slow with a bright start, but very low cloud hampering the sightings later on. No wind whatsoever. In 90 minutes I did manage a Hobby South , and Little Egret… Continue reading
